The RAF has eight C-17 Globemaster III high-wing, four-engine military transport aircraft that can carry large equipment, supplies and troops directly to small airfields in harsh terrain anywhere in the world, day or night. They are stationed at RAF Brize Norton with logistics support from the Globemaster III Integrated Sustainment Programme (GISP).
GISP is designed around the Performance Based Logistics (PBL) concept where the cost is related to readiness, not specific parts or services. Under the agreement, Boeing is responsible for all C-17 sustainment activities, including material management and depot maintenance. The PBL capitalises on Boeing’s expertise to ensure readiness levels meet the RAF’s needs.
