Managing Director, Boeing Defence UK Ltd
David Pitchforth is managing director of Boeing Defence UK, Ltd., responsible for the growth, alignment and integration of all business activity in the United Kingdom for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS). He was named to this position in December 2012.
Prior to this David joined the company in January 2009 as managing director for Boeing’s UK Rotorcraft Support business. Responsible for coordinating the company’s rotorcraft support activities and business development in the UK, David was the single customer interface for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in this area of Boeing’s UK business. This includes the UK portfolio of rotorcraft support activities of Apache Integrated Operational Support programme; and the highly successful Chinook Through Life Customer Support programme.
Prior to joining Boeing, David was senior vice president, UK Government Business Unit & Westland Helicopters Transformation director for AgustaWestland, now Leonardo Helicopters. Along with the set-up and lead for all business with the MoD and other government agencies, Pitchforth was responsible for AgustaWestland’s transformation associated with the Defence Industrial Strategy and Strategic Partnering between the company and the MoD. He set the strategic direction for the UK business, and interacted with the MoD on all aspects of the UK legacy Helicopter Fleet and new procurement.
Until March 2005, David was managing director and chairman of Jaguar Racing Formula-1 team, a role that he undertook at the request of Ford Motor Company. Taking over the company in a troubled state, he completed a full organisational restructuring of the company and engineering disciplines, resulting in improved performance while delivering a 31% reduction in cost. Following a decision by Ford to withdraw from the sport, David committed to maintaining and preparing the business for the eventual successful sale to Red Bull.
Originally, from Yorkshire, England the first 15 years of David’s career were in Europe and North America’s automotive transportation industries working with turbochargers and high speed fans for a Tier-1 equipment, research, and technology supplier.
Before joining Ford, David held a position as managing director & chairman for the Auto Research Center, a Honda-Reynard joint-venture. He also worked as manager Product Development/Test Engineering & Facility Services for Schwitzer US Inc, a division of Latterly-BorgWarner, and held multiple positions in test engineering for Schwitzer (Europe) Ltd., in the UK.
David holds a degree in Design Engineering from Open University, a HNC in Design Engineering and an ONC in Mechanical & Production Engineering from Huddersfield Polytechnic, as well as a certificated apprenticeship from the Engineering Industry Training Board.
