The Portal
The Portal

A cooperative effort between Boeing and QinetiQ, The Portal is a real-time environment in which customers can collaborate and experiment in support of programmes and operations.

The Portal offers an analysis and experimentation capability that will help customers understand the future, explore their options and evaluate alternative solutions in a real-time, collaborative, dynamic environment.

The state-of-the-art, live-virtual-constructive environment, along with advanced modelling, simulation and analysis tools, allows customers to explore and understand the implications of proposed Defence Lines of Development and system architecture changes.

The Portal has the people and the processes in place to rapidly conduct a full range of activities, including warfighting experimentation. It offers customers significant opportunities to best discover solutions to meet their needs and to make cost-effective investment decisions.

With the current, important emphasis on interoperability, The Portal uses common open standards, allowing for integration of components and systems beyond this environment.

Bringing the power of Boeing and QinetiQ together

Bringing the power of Boeing and QinetiQ together

Two of the world’s major defence contractors bring their distinctive strengths to The Portal. Boeing brings a wealth of experimentation experience, along with extensive systems integration and production expertise. QinetiQ’s modeling and simulation experience is augmented by a unique understanding of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) customer – having worked closely with them for many years. Combining the strengths of the two companies strongly supports the MOD Defence Industrial and Technology Strategies. Boeing and QinetiQ are committed to investing in tools and technologies that will enable future military hardware and software solutions to be assessed in a variety of operational environments.

This alliance provides a platform to build intellectual property and to increase the depth and breadth of UK expertise in system engineering in support of robust through-life capability management.

Together, Boeing and QinetiQ offer customers the ability to draw on the best people, processes and tools from each company. They have created a capability in The Portal that helps them work effectively with customers to explore their options and evaluate alternative solutions.

A powerful decision-support capability

The Portal provides the ability to experiment with live, virtual and constructive assets, using realistic scenarios. This helps customers define requirements, evolve capabilities and discover new technologies to meet their needs. The ability to “look into the future” through experimentation helps customers make better decisions, which lead to lower risk, as well as reduced costs and product development time.

The integration of the Boeing Laboratory Network and the QinetiQ quest network into a distributed, international network, with nodes in the U.K., U.S. and Australia, gives customers an additional capability to address coalition interoperability and network-enabling issues – with operators participating with live assets and in virtual simulations.

Global reach

Integrating the networks gives customers access to all the people and capabilities within Boeing and QinetiQ, leveraging the depth of knowledge, understanding and expertise within these two companies. For example, they have used their collective, in-depth understanding of network management, in both the virtual and the real world, to give The Portal the capability to emulate, study, analyse and improve the networked environments of warfighters engaged in the battlespace.
